confused  am a chrons patient going through the worst flare up now.Lost job becuase of disease.

Been on the Asacol,Pred Now on Imuran.

I had severe reaction with Imuran and lost considerable weight from 180 pounds to 120 pounds

One of my friend suggested this book and the diet.

Did any one  used this diet and see any improvements?

My daughter has been in remission for more than 1 1/2 yrs and we don't know whether it is the Entocort or diet or both. She isn't really on the diet anymore because she eats potatoes and rice which are not allowed...but otherwise she does follow the diet, avoiding sugar, grains, processed meats (like hot dogs), etc.

imho this is a good diet. i use the maker's diet, but i do incorporate parts of this into it. the website njmom suggested will help a lot - info and recipes. but if you do decide to do it get the book, it is worth it. it talks a lot about making your own yogurt. i dont know how important this is as i was feeling great from the maker's diet already when i finally got around to investigating this, but it cant hurt. i do make my own as this diet suggested and it is easy to do (and cheaper than buying it). makes the best plain yogurt i've ever had. i suggest giving it a try. it will only cost you food. but it is tough and intimidating. granted all diets are but especially ones like these for diseases. it isnt a panacea but i would expect any one it should see some results. most of it though imho is up to how well you adhere to the regiment, which can be pretty demanding, especially when just starting out. once it becomes habit and you see benefits it becomes easy to do. i've heard of many people who have had success on this diet or some form of it.

YES! I did the diet religiously for 6 months and it was a life saver. I truly believe that it saved me from surgery and also allowed me to get pregnant. Some people say this diet has not worked for them, but since it did wonders for me I would tell you that at the very least it is worth trying for 30 days. What do you have to lose? It is very strict, but it was soooooooo worth it for me. My GI was so impressed she asked me to bring in the book and when she looked at it she said she was going to start telling her other patients about it. I know it's awful to feel so horrible. Maybe this diet will put you back on track. ((((HUGS))))

Everyone experience is different. I have the book, and tried some of the suggestions. It did not help me at all !! Some of the recipes have ingredients that for me are absolutely NO-NO.

The trick with the SCD and the Maker's Diet is that you really need to try it 100% in order to really tell if it is helping. I agree with Stef that the diet is definitely worth giving a wholehearted shot for at least 30 days.

I gave the Maker's Diet a shot for several months very strictly and it did help my crohn's symptoms better than surgery and meds.

I have heard very good things about SCD as well.

I've been on the SCD for a while but I allow myself to consume a limited amount of rice during the day or other carbs in small amounts. The main culprit is sugar/dairy, once you avoid that entirely you maybe able to get away with eating small amounts of carbs.

This diet or at least my version of it, has healed my colon from ulcers and I have much fewer bm's...so I can actually go out and live life now!
