Abcess in Throat - CD Related??

Why do i have to be so difficult, why can't i have something normal like strep or tonsilitis or something? my CD has been in remission for 3 years. Well, my general doctor just told me that i have an abcess in my throat behind my tonsils. i had an abcess 5 years ago in my anal area, antibiotic didn't work and i had to get it removed and they found a fistula. i know that cd can happen anywhere in the digestive tract, but i wanted to know if anyone has had this problem.
i also get boils randomly in my 'hot spots' they last for months. actually one i've had for 2 1/2 years now. they come and go and drain and heal up. my CD doctor told me it was my cd settling in my limp nodes (sp?) and rising to the surface. i suppose this could be one of those too, just in my throat.
should i call my cd doctor if the antibiotic doesn't work?

I had something similar, I had a mass in my throat, discovered on accident while scanning for something else.

They took out a saliva gland and told me it was inflamed, but that it was negative for cancer and they had no other ideas what caused the inflamation so they went with the "could be crohns" thing :)

That was last year, never did find out exactly what happened

sounds like yours wasn't painful at the time, since they discovered it on accident. mine is terribly painful, hard to swallow, trouble with chewing food, talking and such...it kinda effects the whole side of my neck and up to my ear. muffled sound out of the ear.
i waited a week to go to the doctor thinking it was just a sore throat that would go away.

Peri-tonsilar abscesses can occur not related to crohn's or fistula. The antibiotics will probably work- tonsil abscesses are very different from skin ones and perianal ones. I used to get abscesses often when I was young. I was even hospitalized for a week when I was 5 due to absceses, and after I finally got a tonsilectomy when I was 8 I never had them again. They are super, incredibly painful, and I'm sorry you're dealing with them! You probably found out by now, but soft hot and cold foods can really help, as can drinking tea. You could ask your doctor for a painkiller to help out until the antibiotics kick in!

I have no idea if tonsil abscesses have any correlation with Crohn's, but I know a lot of non-Crohnies who have had them. I sometimes wonder if all those throat issues were a precursor to me developing Crohn's 17 years later.... no idea.

In June '07, just prior to my Crohn's diagnosis, I had a severe throat infection with 103 fever.  I tested negative for strep and mono, but my PCP put me on three different rounds of antibiotics, which caused severe diarrhea, but didn't seem to immediately help the throat infection. It took over a month to clear up an it was very painful! Soon after that I was anemic, high WBC, blood in stool and the eventual Crohn's diagnosis.  I really believe it was Crohn's in my throat, although that was never confirmed by a doctor.  I suggest that you see an ENT (ear, nose and throat specialist) and make sure they know that you have Crohn's.  I gargled with warm salt water, which helps a little, but I was pretty miserable.  Sorry you have to go through this!

Thank you all. i'm feeling a lot better today. Combination of gargling with salt water, antibiotics, not talking much and eating soft foods has really helped out. hopefully this will just go away. if it doesn't go away with antibiotics then i'm definatly calling my gastro at least to discuss it. being in remission for so long and not being on any maintence meds, i feel like when my cd does come back it could be anywhere. just a gut feeling, pun intended. :)
