To all,
I thought I would share my personal experience. To s_mack (Steven)- thank you for your entry, my husband and I found it very helpful!
I am currently 33 weeks pregnant and have been living with ankylosing spondylitis for 5 years (diagnosed when I was 21). I have been on Enbrel and Humira and other medications throughout the years. I was on Humira when I learned I was pregnant and stopped it on the advice of my rheumatologist.
Around 18 weeks of my pregnancy I had one the worst flares of my life. Low doses of prendisone were not helping and I was miserable. I decided (with my rheum and husband) to go back on the Humira when I was about
24 weeks pregnant. I took the injection and felt better within days. I also signed up for the registry through OTIS which I recommend all of you do.
What I'd really like to share with everyone is that I was recently switched to a drug called Cimzia. It has similar properties to Humira but as my rheumatologist described it to me, it is pegylated and so its molecular structure is larger, meaning it doesn't pass through to the placenta. This sounded great to me, so I am taking that now and doing pretty well. (Our little boy in utero is also doing very well!)
Has anyone else taken Cimzia? Seems like this would be the best TNF-inhibitor to use during pregnancy but wondering if anyone else out there has experience with it.
Good luck to all
