Hi everyone,
I am new to this site. I have had Crohn's for a few years and I am getting a little sick of being more gassy than I used to be. Everytime I eat anything like beans, cheese, legumes, spicy food, alcohol, basically anything resembling 'rich' or anything traditionally 'gassy' I get wayyyyy more gassy than I used to. I am getting really over it. Oh, and may I add, they certainly don't smell good. Eww.
Any suggestions? Has anyone tried Beano? Does that help?
I think my poor hubby is getting sick of me smelling up the bedroom at night.. hehe. Poor thing. It sucks. *blush*
Anyways, a slightly embarrassing problem, but I thought people at this forum might be able to relate :)

I've had CD for almost 17 yrs and the only thing that helped my severe gas (although it wasn't smelly) and severe bloating was when my GI told me to take a fibre supplement daily for the rest of my life...initially it increased the gas and bloating but once my system adjusted my gas became very minimal and still not smelly and the bloating went away...many other benefits from it too...less frequency, formed stools, able to eat fibreous foods, no more mucus so it's helped with my CD and my IBS as well.

I've never tried Beano, but I've tried GAS-X and it did nothing for me. In fact all it seemed to do is make my gut hurt more! I hate the gas too - I can handle many of the symptoms of CD, but for me it's the socially embarrassing gas that seems to bug me the most.

I find everyone to be super helpful here, and I've found that it's amazing how many people will have good answers for issues that are affecting you. Keep posting.

Neither Beano or Gas-X has any effect on the bloating and gas problem. It has always just been a waste of money for me.  It may work for others, though.

My hubby uses Beano faithfully..............does it help.......now your asking me as the wife?  lol, yes sometimes it helps.  I did make the mistake once just recently of saying a bit more then I should have re the odor and he let me have it.  He said he can't help it and "I need to learn to live with it or leave the room"  I did notice he lit a candle one day in the dining room after his comment.  Sweet.
He is right, my mouth was to big and I will not say anything again.

Hi Aussie, you can probably tell from my name that i've same problem....hubby and i just laugh it off and have farting competitions.... i swear its like sleeping in a tent sometimes lol

btw, if it's only specific foods that's causing it, you could follow the advice of my doctor who, when I tried to discuss some food-related problems, simply said "for ___'s sake, don't eat it then, girl!". Discussion closed. (I thought it was quite funny, but he does have a point!)

Have you tried Degas?

I too have that problem. I guess I should eliminate foods. I have not tried any of the meds. One recent post said something about taking chlorophyll and it is supposed to help. I plan to try that, at least it is a natural ingredient in plants. Ivy, your cracked me up, my hubby keeps telling me to stop eating stuff I shouldn't but I keep doing it. Why do i do that? Karen

I've heard char-coal tablets work well for gas but I haven't tried them.

I've heard that too. One problem with charcoal is that you have to be careful when you take it, as it can absorb your meds and stop them from getting into your body.
