Hello, I just joined today and I have a few questions. I have had CD for about
4 years. I have 3 or 4 flareups a year that are extremely painfull to need to go to the ER. I have mucus or pus daily, mostly clear, sometimes yellow. Does this means my CD is active? My Dr. wants me to go back on Pentasa, I had the same amount of flare ups on the med as not so I quit them altogether. My stomach hurts most of the time, to touch. Am I damageing my colon more by not taking any meds? I'm sorry this is long. Thank You in advance for your answers. KC

You shouldn't have to live with these types of symptoms, and yes damage is probably being done. If Pentasa didn't work before ask for something else instead or to compliment it. Insist on something because you deserve to feel better.

Hello and welcome to HealingWell,
If the Pentasa does not work ask your doctor what else you can take. You should not have to live in pain. You need to be on some kind of meds.

Pentasa really never did anything great for my Daughter's Crohn's either. Her health floundered horribly for 4 years on it. Some patients do really well on it though and is all they need to stay healthy. They are the lucky patients.
Pentasa (or Asacol) are good meds to take though as they are more of a topical treatment and help keep colon cancer at bay. You may need need something stronger in meds to take along with your Pentasa to try and ward off flares like Imuran or 6MP maybe.
