Oh, WHINE!

After a busy afternoon in the clinic seeing patients today, I got home and thought, "Hmm, I don't feel so good." Now, five hours later, I have a fever of 104 and a painful cough. I took 800 mg of Tylenol three hours ago and it hasn't done crap for the fever. Great, now all the immune-suppressed patients I saw today are probably going to keel over with this thing in the next two days...

Sarita, I am sending you a hug. Sorry you are not felling well. Make sure to drink plenty water.

Oh Sarita, you just can't catch a break! I hope you feel better soon. Don't fool around with 104 fever! if you think it's the flu, get the Tamiflu or other anti-flu meds. Take care!

Sorry you're feeling so bad, but about the patients you saw, did you wash your hands before you dealt with each of them? If so, don't worry. If not, then ... lesson learnt? You just never know what you're brewing. And it is a sad fact that the spread of most iatgrogenic illnesses are because health care workers get lazy about this basic precaution.

A question. How many times has a patient inquired about whether you have washed your hands? I think every immuno-compromised patient in an er or hospital environment should, as a rule, make that their first question, but I suspect a lot of us worry about how the question will be received.
