Lymphocytic Colitis?

I just got my colonoscopy report the other day, and the general surgeon put in the report that it looked almost like lymphocytic colitis. The gastro said that I for sure had IBD, she just wasn't sure if it was UC or CD. I didn't have the report then, just got it the other day. Just wondering what this is and if anyone here has heard of this or has it... I don't think this is what I have since I had problems show on the SBFT & since the biopsy did not come back with Lymphocytic Colitis as the finding.

I was just curious about this....

Good Morning,

Lymphocytic colitis gets its name because of the increased level of specialized white blood cells (lymphocytes) found in the colon. The diagnosis is confirmed by microscopic examination of the colon's cells. Lymphocytic colitis is  rare — occurring much less commonly than other, better known gastrointestinal diseases such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease.
Treatment apears to be the same as treating the other IBDs.

Well, the biopsy didn't show that, so I am sure that's not what it is.... Just curious...

From what I understand, people diagnosed with lymphocytic colitis have normal looking colonoscopies, but further microscopic investigation shows the increased white blood cells that Kitt described. It is another, less known form of IBD. If that is what the surgeon who did your scope said, it suggests that there was no obvious visable areas of inflammation in your colon when the scope was performed.
What did the biopsies actually say?

No, the surgeon saw ulcers & inflammation. I have pictures from the colonoscopy of these ulcers. The surgeons's exact wording is: "We did see some little patches that looked almost like lymphocytic colitis". He said something about seeing what the biopsies show, and that "We did not do a small bowel series but the CT scan (back in August) would give any evidence of Crohn's if oral contrast was used." The biopsy said Focal Active Colitis with Mild Crypt Distortion. The GI said the "crypt distortion" meant IBD.

BTW, I just had the SBFT a month ago which showed a problem in the cecum/ileum area. Now I have to wait for 6 weeks for the next colonoscopy while on prednisone & azulfidine. I guess I will know more then. Still having problems keeping the weight on, I struggle trying to gain.... I don't feel much better on this prednisone, not like I thought I would...

Hello

I was diagnosed with Lymphocytic colitis about 3 years ago. I haven't been able to find a great deal of information on it (that I can understand), but I was told after two colonoscopies that the last 30cm of my colon is damaged.

I suffer the same symptoms as UC and Crohn's sufferers do, just without the blood and the pain.

I am currently on Entocort and whilst it seemed to work at first, it really isn't at the moment.

Really? I am so interested... I have had blood on occassion, but not often. They did a hemoccult test which did show blood, then I started to notice small areas of blood, but only a few times & nothing lately. I do have lots of pain, though.

How were you diagnosed? Did they SEE it on the colonoscopy or did it come out in the biopsy? I would love any more information on your story that you may have....
