PROCTITIS - SUDDEN URGES DON'T STOP

Can anyone give me suggestions on what my next step would be. I have been diagnosed with proctitis of the lower colon area and all meds that i seem to be taking don't seem to be giving me any relief. I still have those sudden urges to go to the br, but when i go i mostly have mainly loose stools. i am slowing weaning myself down off of prednisone, taking Humira (40mgs) injections every other week, taking asacol 3 times a day
(3 pills/3 times per day), and taking a canassa (1000mg) supository enema at night, but with no relief.

It is getting to the point where somebody i know who also has cd, was advised by their dr. to see their gp and maybe get some kind of medicine that relaxes you. Has anybody out there ever been like on Valium,
Xanax or anything of the like to help relax you. I periodically have taken Darvisette, but lately that to has stopped working.

I am at the point that i am starting to get very frustrated because nothing seems to be working for me. Has anybody ever been through a situation like this before ?

Any suggestions would be helpful and greatly appreciated.

I used to have constant urges and I know how bad they can be. I am sorry you are going through this. I tried many things. I found the Rowasa Enema's to work fairly well at times. The Cortenema's worked pretty well after a while. Then there is the Cortifoam. This is good because it isn't a retention enema. It is just foam and doesn't cause any cramping. You use it both at night and in the morning. I also used to take Lomotil (two tablets) first thing in the morning and then every four hours as needed. That really seemed to help calm the urges. Also, when I was having those urges often, I would try to lie down as soon as I came out of the bathroom for a short while. For some reason, this seemed to help me. I have never taken Valium or anything like that. I hope you get relief soon.

I second the cortifoam for proctitis (inflammation of the rectom)...I've used other rectal meds like salofalk suppositories and just didn't find them to be near effective enough.

Hi Pb4 and fellows IBDers.

I find the word Cortifoam attracting.I have recto/sigmoid irritation from IBS.I'm looking for a coolant stuff that i could fill in my rectal/sigmoid area.What is your opinion?

I feel my lower abdomen on fire.

Definitely talk to your doc about rectal meds, cortifoam or retention enemas will likely help you out.

So sorry. I know this well.
Don't let up on the doctor! My Crohns Disease started out (allegedly) as "nothing, just a bit of protitis). 6 years later it was Ulcerative colitis. After that Indeterminate Colitis. 3 years later, Crohn;s with terminal ilium involvement and worst disease at the sigmoid colon(so it acts like UC)
Try the cortifoam but ask for something for the upper parts. They often don't belive we have it if they can't find it.
