Hey, I, too, have been wondering about fish oil. I started taking it after my nephew-in-law tried it and saw an improvement. He use to be in and out of the hospital with Crohn's complications. He gained a lot of weight from the prednisone. Then, tried the fish oil and has been taking it daily for about five months. He raved about it so I tried it. My GI said I should take 4,000-5,000mg a day to see a benefit, but on the bottle of enteric coated Fisol that I purchased it said I wouldn't need as much because it was enteric coated and would make it to the intestines before opening. So, I started out by taking the 3 pills a day recommended, but then, when I saw very little change I emailed my doctor and after careful calculation realized that I would have to take 12 pill of the Fisol along with my 16 Pentasa to have a benefit. ( My GI also warned that it would have the negative side effect of thinning my blood.) After, realizing that I would have to take so many pills I decided not to take the Fisol anymore. I was super sick for two and a half days. Then, after a black licorice binge, I started taking four pill of Fisol a day (one with each four of my Pentasa). I have been to afraid to stop taking it again to see if I would get sick again. Now, I'm looking to also add a Probiotic Formula by Garden of Life entitled Primal Defense. Several years ago when my husband was vomiting for six month and the doctors couldn't figure out how to help him, I gave him this and he stopped vomiting in two days. (He has diverticulitis.) Anyway, please let me know how much Fish Oil your GI docs have been recommending? I'm glad your son is doing better.
