need opinions

Hey everyone. So I just got back from urgent care.. which was supremely unhelpful. I started 6MP about two and a half weeks ago. I have felt nausea on and off, but it hasn't been that much of a problem for me. But this afternoon it hit me hard. Last night I felt like I had a migraine and ended up taking tylenol which helped. I ended up falling asleep for a couple hours and woke up drenched in sweat. But my head ache was gone. Today I spent the day with my friend just reading for school. I've been having my period cramps (I have endometriosis) and ended up taking a tramadol for the pain. That never makes me nauseous. I had caffeine, which I normally don't have, and it made my heart feel funny. But I've felt that before. Anyways, I tried to go to dinner with my friend but I just couldn't eat. She actually made me call my insurance's 24 hour nurse help line because she wasn't going to allow me to just pretend nothing was wrong. I felt a bit dizzy and super nauseous. I was spitting and hacking up mucous (sorry so gross). I never ended up throwing up though.

My question is whether or not this is something I really need to bother my GI doctor with. The doctor at urgent care was a joke. He actually asked me how I got Crohn's Disease. Grrrr. But he told me that really anything can cause nausea, so he would write me a prescription for anti-nausea medication. I'd really rather not have to take more medicine, and just kind of let it pass on its own. I'm already taking the 6 MP, Entocort, Pentasa, Imipramine, birth control, tetracycline (for acne) and then the tramadol today for period cramps. Does this seem like something I can just let slide or do I have to deal with this? Sorry that this was so long winded. Thanks in advance for all your help and suggestions.

Keep an eye on your symptoms -do you also have a fever?
I ended up very sick from 6-MP (it caused hepititis and wiped out my immune system causing me to be hospitalized). It started out that I felt like I was getting the flu (fever and headache) and then I started chills and high fever and throwing up. I was misdiagnosed at the hospital emergency (gallbladder attack), and by the time the bloodwork showed my problem -I was really sick. It happened very suddenly though (over a few days). I had only been on the medication for a few weeks (three at the most).

6mp can cause nausea in some patients, especially early in the course of treatment. One solution many have posted here is to take the med at night before bed. Also, the tetracylcines can also cause stomach irritation and nausea. It's hard to tell what is causing this . . . a watch and wait approach might be best unless it gets worse.

brit I don't think it makes a difference when yo take it -- the goal is to get a constant level in your system, and morning or night ought not impact that. As for the bleeind, I assume your doc is monitoring your blood counts. One side effect of 6mp is suppressed white count. If he's not be sure to insist on it.

Make sure the doctor is also monitoring liver enzymes. This medication can raise liver enzymes, and one symptom of that is itchy skin.

The medication also lowers body temp, so if you do get a fever while on the med, it may not get as hot as it would without the med. You need to discuss this also with your doctor. If the doctor blows it off as not a problem, then consider a second opinion, because this med is nothing to fool around with (from personal experience).
