HOW LONG CLEAR DIET BEFORE RESECTION?

How long were you prescribed a clear diet before a resection?  Mine is three days and the prospect of three days with nothing but broth and sugar water in addition to the surgery put me into an anxiety attack requiring meds.  (At 130lbs. I have no fat reserve.)

Hi Not sure how long a person is supposed to stay on one I had a scope before mine so did the clean out thing before surgery. Found it a little tiresome after surgery on it, is this your first resection? Mine was about 9 weeks ago and I am doing much better now I was quite sick prior to surgery. Hope things go good for you and keep in touch. How do you feel about having surgery? Best Wishes. I am sure you"ll get threw the diet thing.I do believe it was on Friday I had my last meal as in solid foodand surgery was on a Tuesday. I was very glad to be eating again . lol gail

My prep for both my resections were no different to that of prep for scoping. I have to admit 3 days does seem extreme.
After taking fleets I was just NPO from midnight. Maybe your surgeon has his reasons, but I would definitely ask.

Each doc is different. My first and 2nd resections were emergency 1 was 1 week after the other so it made for a more complex situation. The 2nd surgery left me with a temporary ostomy so in that case I had to do clears just the day before surgery and nothing after midnight prior to surgery.

I had to have another resection for a fistula and I was able to eat normally then the day before the surgery I had to do a colonoscopy prep (using the pills not the drinks) and was limited to clears only and that was my prep.

My first and third resection preps were just like a scope prep. My middle resection I had been in the hospital for several weeks on TPN so I don't think I ended up with any prep, or at least none that I remember. 3 days does seem a bit long, I think I would at least ask why.
