Hi all
I was thinking about the site especially when it was posted about using text type symbols etc in the posts. I know I am guilty of that after typing for a while, in my shorter posts there may be lots of typos since now I have full web access on my cell and to go back is a pain and if I hold the clr button too long it deletes the whole post...thats happened 2 times and it was frustrating...ok back to my topic
I was thinking that many of us use medical abbreviations while in posts and for most of us who have been here for a while understand them or those who have worked in medical fields. We have many new members who are new to the site as well as Crohn's and if they are not familiar with the abbreviations some of us use such as Sx = surgery (which if read wrong may look like a whole different topic if not known about its meaning especially to those who english is not their 1st language. Also I remeber reading IMHO for the 1st time and trying to figure out for a good 5 min what ti sttod for then finally getting the in my humble opinion out of it. I think that a topic with just a list of more commonly used abbreviations would be a good addition to the site and I would also have a couple of links if that is okayed to a couple of websites who list lots more abbreviations that would be listed in the post for those who may want to educate themselves further.
I have sent an email to the webmaster by the link given also mentioning my idea for this. I wonder if some newer members may feel awkward asking what certain abbreviation may be and this way if they felt uncomfortable asking or no one was around on this forum at the time they are on they would have somewhere to go to rather than maybe not fully understanding the post.
Hopefully I will hear back soon I am unsure if it would be best to have 1 general post used for all forums or if each forum would have their own set, unfortunatly I do not know all abbreviations that may be used on those forums, I spend most of my time here and even though my ostomy is reversed I still check in there just in case I can help anyone there from the 4 months I had mine for.
Hopefully this will be something that will help all
:) Stef
