I'd just like to point out that dental flossing is a very good idea. Much of the tooth rot comes from bacteria lodged between the teeth and surrounding gums, and flossing removes this. If you haven't flossed for a long time, you'll notice that when you do, there is a pretty bad smell that is released. That's the odor of all those bacterial colonies which you are unearthing with the floss. If you floss at least once daily, you won't have that odor, and your gums will be much healthier.
This is not a panacea, but it's highly recommended.

Forgot to say earlier... on the enamel issue, I had a dentist tell me I was brushing my teeth too hard because I was scrubbing off the enamel. Is that even possible? Perhaps that was a sign that my enamel wasn't in good shape...
The so-called "whitening" toothpastes are abrasive and can damage the enamel. Regular fluoride toothpaste and a soft brush are best.
Those of you who have had implants - do you mind if I ask how much you paid? My wife just had 9 of them done here in Taiwan, at about
US$2000 a piece. Just curious to know how this compares to prices elsewhere in the world.
cheers,
Robert
