For a couple of days now, I feel like something is lodged in my throat. It's uncomfortable and sometimes painful. It's near the base of my neck. I don't really think it's lodged - just feels that way. I can eat and stuff without much issue.

I wonder if it's inflammation or something caused by the Crohns? Since it affects the whole digestive system? Weird swelling?

Aimee,  I get that sometimes too!  The Dr. hasn't found anything wrong, but it sure is annoying!  I don't have a clue what causes it.  It seems to come and go and with no particular reason.  Maybe some else can answer that question, just wanted to let you know you aren't alone.   It could be caused by the Crohn's, seems like so many things are.

Wow. I have UC but that is happening to me now! It happens probably once every couple months. Sometimes it happens when I take headache pills in the middle of the night. So the doctor's didn't say anything was wrong? It's just such a strange feeling.

Oh I am so glad someone else has it, too!

It's really getting to me. I have this desire to just puke, but there isn't anything there. It's really odd...

I will mention it to my GI when I see him in a week and see if any other patients have complained of the same. He may look at me like I have two heads but I'll tell him I'm not alone!

Gastric reflux [heartburn] can cause a similar feeling. Please mention this to your GI. You should be evaluated for GERD [gastroesophageal reflux disease]. It is quite common in patients with CD especially if you have Crohn's in the terminal ileum or higher up in the small bowel. I had similar symptoms in the beginning. Then they got worse over time. When I finally told the GI and they did an upper endoscopy, he found I had quite severe inflammation in my stomach. Some areas were so inflamed they had actually bled.

I have to agree with Ides, I too had the same problem GERD and mine continued to get worse. I went on meds for gerd for over a year and finally had the surgery. Things are better now so good luck to you all. Kay

How interesting... I have had acid reflux issues in the past, and my disease is all in the TI. That would make sense.

I will write it on my list of things to talk about.

Is there anything I can take to stop the sensation right now? It's getting really uncomfortable and sticking around longer than usual this time.

Okay guys, I had this too. Went to the ER in Reno on vacation with this. GERD. It feels like something is lodged. I take my nexium like clock work or else it comes back. Do get this checked out just to make sure that's what it is. You never know and better to be safe than sorry. Take care, it's uncomfortable I know. Wishing you health!

My Cd is in the terminal Ilium as well. A few years ago, I had an obstruction. The Gerd was so bad it ate a whole in my esophagus. I couldn't even swallow my saliva. I've been on Pantaloc ever since...and cannot go without it.
Plus I get this annoying post nasal drip thing. I wake up with so much mucous and phlegm in my throat every night. ..makes me want to throw up.

This forum is incredible....all these years I have been thinking "I must be a hypocondriac, no one could have so many weird things wrong with them!"  Then, I find this site and am starting to realize...after all these years that all of it must in some way be related to the Crohn's.  My Crohn's is in the terminal illeium also.  I do take prilosec, but some times I still get this lump in my throat.  Sometimes it lasts a day, sometimes it lasts several days.  Years ago, when this started (Amieee's ? got me thinking back) my GI prescribed, lidocaine (sp?).  You take a spoonful and swallow it.  It completely numbs everything on the way down, a little scary because I did not feel anything.  But, I could eat again.  At that time it was so bad that I was not eating anything solid because it was so bad.  Anyway, I love this site and have discovered no question is too strange to ask; probably someone else has the same question.  Thanks All!

Are you on any medications?

I'm convinced this is GERD - I have all the symptoms and just shrugged it off as another Crohns weirdness.

I wish I was seeing the GI this week; I'm having trouble sleeping with the throat issues. I keep getting so much saliva in my mouth that I have a hard time not throwing up.

I am on medication; just Humira for my Crohns, plus Benadryl, Advair, Albuterol, Claritin, Singulair for asthma/allergies.

I have had that once or twice. Once was because I got a pentasa stuck. I think some of the outside irritated my throat because it felt like it was still stuck for a few days. It was awful. it does sound like you could have gerd from what the others are saying so I hope you get some relief soon. Karen

I had the same feeling as everyone else and thought my GI was an idiot when he told me it was GERD, as I'd had problems with it in the past and it was never this same feeling. Anyway, he put me back on Protonix and the feeling went away. I've been on the meds since with no more problems. Aimee, I don't know of anything else you can take in the meantime. Hope everyone with this problem can get answers and help from their GIs soon.

I am having the stuck in the throat feeling today all day. it seems to be after I eat usually but today it has been all day no matter what I do. I used to get it at night some but I assumed it was my pentasa not going all the way down. After reading here and the feeling today I think it may be something else. I am almost not breathing as well too because it feels like my throat is smaller. Karen
