Hi all,
I'm back from surgery and I *finally* have an answer to my question about
why they insist on replacing setons annually.
The surgical registrar told me that with time, the fistula tract closes over and stops draining effectively, causing pain, infection and discomfort. They go in, re
open the tract, and that means that all the gloop can start draining properly again.
She also said that if setons are left in too long, there's a risk that they will break.
I know a few of us were confused about
this - I hope this helps.
I, glad to be home
