I have to give you alittle background on this story. My family has had Crohn's running through it for a few generations now. Recently my first cousin was diagnosed with it. I have had stomach problems for years and while it has never been diagnosed as CD the docs have always thought that it would progress to it eventually. My Doc finally decided that I should have a scope and she wanted top and bottom. Very disturbing thought.
Oh yeah did I mention that I am only 23?
So in October I finally go in for my scope and on the way wall there is five different smiley faces with a description on it about how much pain you are in. The fifth face looked the most uncomfortable and next to it, it said that if you are combative and failling your arms you are in the "most" pain. While I have heard stories that you don't remember anything even though you were awake I was still concerned. To be totally honest I didn't want to remember anything. So I asked the nurse that was in charge of admistering the meds if I had to get combative in order to get all of the "Good" drugs. She laughed and told me that she would make sure that I didn't feel a thing.
Alright so that is the background. The tested ended up being inconclusive due to poor prep. Not sure how because I never left the toilet. But hey they were up there and I wasn't.
Well I end up going back for another scope because I was bleeding. Same hospital, same doctor and....same nurse. She remember me and when I looked for the upset smiley faces she told me that she had pulled them down because she didn't want anyone to think that. It was a good laugh. When I asked her if she was going to give me the same amount as last time she said that she wasn't sure. The Doc asked her how much I had last time. She said "10 and 7" Not sure what that meant but last time I didn't remember anything and I woke up in lala land. The Doc said "Give him 10 and 5" I looked at the Doc and then the nurse and asked him if he really wanted to take that chance?
I don't remember anything else besides waking up in my room. CD was ruled out but it has brought up my awareness to everyone's struggle. The Docs still don't know why I present similar symptoms but atleast I had a good laugh. Figured I would share it with all of you!
