Just got home today! Had a rough time.

Hi everyone,

Well, my gallbladder/bowel resection is finally behind me.  I was in the hospital one day short of two weeks.

The surgeon removed 10 inches of my terminal ileum, as well as my gallbladder.  Didn't expect the pain to be as bad, or last as long.  My previous surgeries seemed to be much easier to handle. 

Well, hopefully, the worst  is over. Still having the big D.  It's been 18 years since my last surgery so I don't remember much.  Those of you who've had resections - how long did the D last?  GI's gonna put me on colestid to see if that helps.

Well, my hope now is that I can stay in remission for a long, long time.  Once my bowels heal I will be able to eat foods that I haven't had in many years.  Will continue on pentasa and remicaid and hope for the best.

So relieved that this nightmare is over.  Looking foward to enjoying the nice spring weather, planting my garden, and visiting my daughters and granddaughters who live out of town. (One in Ariz, one in Fla)

O lordy I had the same surgery in December, but I had my gallbladder out when I was six...so kinda the same. For me the diarriah lasted for a few months until it finally subsided and got less intese (smell....yuck sorry) and frequency. I was also put on Colestid twice a day and I hate that stuff with a passion. It tastes horrible. It didnt do much of anythign for me so my GI took me off of it. You may also be having diarriah with some more foods for a bit because you dont have a gallbladder to break down fats hence diarriah. Atleast it outs though...and since having mine out over 15 years ago it does get better. Best of luck and feel better soon!

Wow, PottyPooper, TWO WEEKS??!! I'm sorry you are having such a rough time of it this surgery. Did you run into complications?

They are telling me just 7 days for a resection and removal of both ovaries.

Oh I am sorry to hear you are having such troubles!! I know of someone who recently had her gallbladder out. Before hand, she was having a lot of D and pain. Her Docs told her six weeks if she was a good girl and eat right, and it did take nearly that long for the D to gradually subside. She called me all excited when she had her first formed stool. She said no one else would understand how joyous that was!! She said this whole episode gave her great respect for those of you who suffer from chronic D.

Take care of yourself, and stay away from fatty food for a couple more weeks!! It will get better and better!! Look forward for sitting out in your beautiful garden relaxing and enjoying the summer air!
