Most of us with crohns have had anticipatory anxiety about
doing stuff. Many of us never leave the house without planning ahead where the bathrooms are. But once in a very very great while, you don't think ahead, Crohns is the last thing on your mind (for once!), and then you find yourself STUCK. Or Crohns was on your mind and you didn't realize you would be stuck. So... if it has happened to you, lets throw it out here so if any of us ever face that same situation you will know to plan ahead.
My biggest stuck moment:
After my aunt's funeral my family was in the car behind the hearse on the way to the cemetary. The cemetary is a big open field (no woods) in the middle of the city. Since it was in the middle of the city I wasn't too worried because there are gas stations and resturants everywhere. I didn't think ahead that when we pulled down the long one way, one way, lane of the cemetary we would be stuck with 25+ cars behind us. I ended up feeling very sick with no way to get out. I would have had to stop the burial and order everyone to back out to get my car out. It was a little too far to break out in a sprint. I made it to the end of the ceremony and through the wait to get our car out but I was DYING. The first gas station I made it to had an out of order toilet. I ran across a 4 lane divided highway (with the concrete barrier in the middle) to get to the McDonalds across the street. I couldn't believe I made it.
So my lesson to everyone: when you are mourning and not thinking about your bowels, remember to park your car on the street OUTSIDE the cemetary, not in the line with everyone else.
