Perforation Anyone?

I had a perforation back in 1990.  That was how I was diagnosed with CD.  Mine was from an obstruction that I did not know I had.  Since I did not know I had CD, I was eating high bran muffins and salads every day.  I ruptured and waited a few days before ended up in the ER poisoning my insides.  It was not the quantity of food, but the roughage of it that lead to my perforation.  No medical care prior to this probably meant I had some weakened areas even before the perforation too.

I can't help much on the meds advice.  After my perforation and resection, I was pretty much "normal" but I ate gentle foods for many years and did not cheat on the diet.  Normal being lots of D, but not much pain.  I am a lucky crohnie.  I was just on Pentasa from 1990 to now with only a few short bouts of prednisone.  You sound like you are in a different point in your disease so you may have issues I never had.

I perforated in 1992, due to "diverticulitis." I had not yet been DX'd as Ulcerative Colitis or Crohns as DX'd today. What I had was a gut infection with a low grade fever. When my colon let go, I started having horrible groin BM pains. My Dr. did not recognise what hd happened and kept me on on full diet. Four days later, I was transfered to a hospital where I had emergency surgery to resection the colon and clean up the gangrein and peritonitis. Shortly before the surgery I went into shock and was given a ring side seat at watching the surgery from above through an out-of-body experience.

Fortunately, only the good die young and after a month in the ICU, plus another week in the hospital, I was good to go. (Back to life thst is.)
