Fistula question

Ok...I've been in remission for 18 months but now it appears I've developed a fistula between my colon and bladder. We're setting up the usual tests to see, but I was wondering

if it is possible to develop a fistula while in remission or does this mean the disease is active again. I don't appear to have any of the symptoms I had previously.

(...and I was so bummed when I saw my GI this morning, I forgot to ask!)

Anyone have a clue?

Jade,
While you have not had any obvious symptoms that have caused you to think your CD was active during these last 18 months, it seems it was. At some point the mucosa of the colon became so thin and weakened from the inflammation, that it caused it to begin to "tunnel" outward. This fistula was quietly "tunneling" and unfortunately hooked up with your bladder. I guess it is possible that this process started before you felt you were in remission. I guess this is a question you are going to have to ask your doctor. Sorry I don't have a definitive answer....
