Celey, BM's being cut down daily doesn't mean it's causing anyone constipation, it means it's regulating their bowel habits for them because of the benefit of probiotics which is essential for all IBDers and even all IBSers...
Same with fibre supplements, I'm a crohnie that has alternated between D and constipation and taking the probiotics that I take has relieved me of that along with taking fibre supplements daily which my GI instructed me to do and I must say was the best advice/help I've gotten from (4 GI's I had over my entire 17 yrs of dealing with crohns)...taking fibre supplements has aided with my past constipation and D issues, it cut my daily BM's back, got rid of my remaining mucus that the bee propolis cut back for me, allows me to eat fibreous foods without getting all gassy and bloated and stopped all my gas and bloat once my system adjusted to it (for me it took 3 months and was well worth it).
I use one called Prodiem (here in Canada) it's similar to metamucil, it's a stool bulker with a mild (and I mean mild) laxative, which you'd want in order not to get bunged up (constipated), fibre in general aids with constipation and D, it's the purpose of it AND it also helps sweep the bowels of bad bacteria which BTW IBDers are known to have bacterial over-growth therefore bringing on the need for BOTH a good probiotic and fibre via supplements or food or both...but many cannot eat fibreous foods and we all need some fibre in our diet in order for our colons to function properly.
Drinking plenty of water is also key, and so is regular exercise for proper functioning bowels and overall health (does wonders for the mind too).
Looks like you've got a few things to really look into in order to help yourself feel better because I guarantee you prednisone and all the other oral RX used for treating IBD alone is not gonna be enough.
Don't forget, you are what you eat too and that makes a huge difference as well, you fill up with junk (processed foods/beverages, fast-foods, caffeine, animal fats, SUGAR, sugar substitutes are ALL known to exacerbate symptoms of IBD and are bad for your health in general...and throwing the word "moderation" around doesn't cut it either because most people have no clue what that means mainly because we live in a fast-food/processed food society and eating healthy gets thrown out the window when people are convinced that eating constantly out of a box/can can be healthy nowadays, cuz it's not.
