do any of you get acne? I mean like bad acne related to the Crohns but yet the dermatologist doesnt put 2 and 2 together??

I broke out with cystic acne 6mths before being dx'd in 05 and always had perfect skin before that. My nodules on my face come and go but never disappear for good and when I flare my face gets worse. The nodules are what most people say they get on their legs.

Has anyone else wondered if the 2 are related? cuz most people will tell you, acne is really from a  poor immune system.

I wondered that also because the more under control my CD is the less acne I get. I actually had less acne when on prednisone but I also had less CD Symptoms then too. I will see if my CD improves if my Skin does too. I wish I knew how to fix that cause none of the remedies I have tried work and I am too old for acne! Karen

I guess maybe Ive read about this in the past, but thought it wasnt what I had cuz it doesnt mention the face area but it describes what I get on my face perfectly! I should take a pic for you all to see.  ;-(

oh and Ive had this too:

  • Scars and skin changes. Severe hidradenitis suppurativa may leave thick, raised scars, pitted skin or patches of skin that are darker than normal (hyperpigmentation).

    I don't (nor have I) had issues with acne and I've been flaring straight my entire 17 yrs...pred can cause acne issues, this happend to me once with being on pred, but it was on my back, not my face, tiny little acne.

    You could use a product called proactiv, they have a line that covers more than just face, they have body products as well.

    awww pb4, I know what your talking about with the acne that comes with pred..this is TOTALLY different. proactiv cant touch these things. They are deep deep nodules that come to no head--I know disgusting. Been to a ton of dermatologists...nothing has ever helped..they wanted to put me on Accutane but its bad on the stomach

    I really think a dermatologist would be in your best interest here. Check out some of the pics on the net, unfortunately this is usually in areas that have skin to skin contact ie groin or underarm. I would not recommend using proactiv in this case, you need prescription meds that will not hurt your girly bits (assuming you are female) if it goes to your groin.

    But I do think (proactiv's) cleanser, toner, weekly or perhaps 2 times week acne mask, and then an oil free moisturizer is a good place to start (2 times a day). Most importantly I think a profession evaluation would be in your best interest.
