Men taking 6-mp and trying to conceive

My husband has had Crohn's disease for about 8 years now.  He has been in the hospital once for 10 days and taken almost every med available.  His doctor has finally found the right combination that seems to be keeping it under control.  he takes remicade and 6-mp along with a couple of other things. we are getting ready to try and have another child (we have one that is 3 years old) but have heard mixed answers on whether or not it is safe to conceive while my husband is taking the medications. His doctor absolutely does not want him to come off the meds.  I'm just wondering if there is anyone who has been on one or both of these drugs (male) and conceived a healthy baby?

I'm on Remicade and 6mp also. When my wife and I were trying to get pregnant, we were having a tough time conceiving. My wifes doctor ran all the tests, and even tests on my sperm count and motility. There were not any problems with my "swim team", and at that time I'd been on the 6mp and Remicade combination for a few years.
I'm taking 50mg of 6mp a day and 1000mg of Remicade every 8 weeks.

My GI and GP all said that there shouldn't be any problem with 6mp or Remicade.

None the less we couldn't conceive and chose to adopt instead. I think the GP finally got as far as she could go with the tests on my wife without it getting beyond what our insurance would cover. We never did figure out where the issue was, but according to her, my tests all looked OK.

So, while we didn't have a baby on these drugs, we could have, and the doctors all said there shouldn't be an issue.
In the end we got a perfect little boy through our county's adoption program and couldn't be happier.

Thank you so much for your info.  I'm glad that your doctor said that there shouldn't be a problem.  I am actually already pregnant, so I guess there wasn't an issue in that department.  So we are just hoping to hear some positive stories from people who have been through the same thing and just crossing our fingers that everything will turn out ok.  Congratulations on your adoption.  That's really awesome!!

I wasn't on remicade but I was on 6mp right before my son was conceived. I chose to come off my meds before getting pregnant. But
my GI doctor said it was totally safe to be on it while pregnant. I believe others on here have been on both and gotten pregnant with
no problems. Good luck!!

I (a male) stopped 6MP 9 months ago b/c my wife and I decided to try to conceive. She didn't get pregnant and I flared, so I'm back on the 6MP. Needless to say I feel like a complete idiot and would recommend to anyone to just stay on the drugs they are on.

Don't sell yourself short, you went off the meds for the right reasons, and there is certainly no fault in that.

Even though the doctor told me it would be OK, I was still pretty concerned.
