Drug Interactions between Methotrexate and Pentasa

When I went to the pharmacy in my local grocery today to pick up my pentasa prescription (I got it through mail order previously) the pharmacist told me she was putting a call into my doctor because pentasa taken with methotrexate can increase levels of methotrexate.   Then later I get a missed phone call from the gi office telling me that she had a call from the pharmacist and to give her a call about my pentasa medication, which I will do tomorrow.   I've been taken the two together for almost 4 weeks.  I would also think the rheumatologist would be aware of this (he is the one prescribing the methotrexate) as he is treating me for crohn's related arthritis.

Has anyone run into this problem?

Pentasa is an anti-inflamitory medication-methotrexate can interact with any of the NSAIDS. However, most people can take NSAIDS with MTX if they are on a steady-established dose of the NSAID. However, you should talk to your doctor and get your blood checked often.
I am one of the weirdo's. Before starting mtx I told my doctor I did not want to have to give up my Sulindac. She told me I read too much and that only two percent of her patients on MTX have to give up their NSAIDS. Ten days after my first dose of MTX she called me my labs were bad-no more Sulindac.
However, the mtx is helping me so much I no longer miss my NSAID and am even off prednisone.
