Hi all-

Ok I'm still a little confused about the serology 7. I've been reading conflicting things. My results came back positive for Crohn's and I was put on Asacol. If I stop the Asacol I get sick again. But does the test actually mean I have Crohn's or its in my genetic makeup? My sister does have Crohn's (Her's dx through colonoscopy). They did a colonoscopy on me a few years ago and found some inflamation but not superbad. So do I tell doctors I have Crohn's?

Any clearification would be great

That is a very good question about the Serology 7 test--is that the same test as the Prometheus Blood Test? I assume it is?

Did your GI ever discuss the results of the test with you?

I would probably check with the doctor that ordered the test and go from there. It is very confusing and I am not sure how accurate that test is--in fact, my insurance did not even pay for my Prometheus test, because it is seen as "experimental." My second GI said that even though my test came back as negative for Crohn's, it doesn't mean you do not have it.

Anyhow, that is just what I have been told and been through.

Who put you on the Asacol? Who ordered the Serology 7? Same doctor? That is the person that really needs to answer the question. Also, inflammation though not superbad, is still a sign of a problem when it occurs in the GI tract. Were biopsies done at the time you had the colonoscopy? If you don't know you might consider getting a copy of the colonoscopy report to see exactly what it says.

I know when I was first going through the diagnostic process, my first GI thought I had CD but wasn't entirely positive. He said he didn't want to "label" me with CD prematurely because once it got into my insurance profile it could potentially cause havoc getting insurance in the future. I wish at that very moment I had run out and bought a long-term care policy because I can't get one now. Are there insurance implications for you?

Prometheus' web site used to have very comprehensive explanations about every number shown on the Sereology 7 report. In fact, I got much better information from the web site than I did from my Doc's explanation. I just wrote down the numbers from my report and then looked at the web site to really see what they meant. Hopefully, the web site still has all that information... I'm just too lazy to look right now. :)
