I'm just curious to know how all of you know what you can and cannot eat?
I'm still in a flare at the moment but things are improving slightly every day. My main concern right now is getting the proper foods in without exacerbating my Crohn's. I am apparently 97 pounds as of two days ago and I really would like to gain weight and build strength. I just am having a difficult time determining what is safe to eat because, as I said, I am in the middle of a flare so distinguishing between the natural symptoms and a bad reaction to a particular food is hard.
Also! I want to begin trying new foods soon, but I was curious to know which ones you absolutely have to avoid. I realize that each person's diet is different, but I feel like there are certain foods most of us can similarly avoid. I wanted to try spaghetti again for example or a hamburger for the iron and protein, but I'm extremely afraid to cause more inflammation and lose the progress I've made.
Having been diagnosed only this past May I'm still new to the experience of coping and recovery so ANY advice and anecdotes would be really appreciated!! I'm over being weak and hungry!
In all honesty, I don't even know what it's like to experience remission. Can you eat whatever you like or do you have to stay perpetually on a bland diet? If you eat something that DOES make you ill does this mean your remission is gone and you have to start all over again because say, you ate pizza just one time?
