Anti-Diarrheal????

Ok i have a question! I will be taking my GREs in 5 days, so I've been very stressed and most likely will be the day of the exam! I've only been on meds for 2 weeks now, just recently diagnosed! and i'm still not doing very well, but better than last week let's just say! I was wondering if it would be a bad idea to take some anti-diarrheal pills before the test...recently i'll just be sitting down and i'll get terrible cramps like i'm going to have diarrhea at any second and i get really nauseous...if i just sit for awhile it does go away, but with being so nervous while taking a test, i'm not sure if that will work this time! I'm just worried that taking any over the counter anti-diarrheal thing will actually make me worse...i've never tried taking any with chron's before because i'm so new to this!! let me know what you all think...if it binds me up after the test i dont care! i just want to be able to sit through a 4 hour test and not make a mess in my pants :(

I currently live on Imoduim. Also, if you're worried, you should have gone the "disabled" route to get accommodations. I'd recommend you take something to help you not have issues.
I took the GREs a few months ago- boy did that suck... a lot. Be sure you're ready for the progressive math questions. You have to get the first few right to do well.

I no longer have problems with D, but I can tell you when I did and I knew I was going somewhere where there might be limited bathroom access, I took Immodium. I use to take just one and that would stop me for the rest of the day. Strangely enough the next day would be back to normal. Go figure?!? Good luck with your GRE's!!

I take Imodium for the big D. When things are really in a bad flare, I take any where from 2 - 5 per day. My doc said it is safe to take up to 8 over 24 hours.

I am not sure why I do not see more people posting on here that they take Imodium, because it really helps my quality of life. I am not sure if I could live without it :-)

I ahve chronic D, all the time. I ahve had 2 resections, so there is nothing for it but to deal. I work every day too. So, in order for me to work I have to take Lomotil. This is a prescription strength anti-diarrheal. It is certainly not for someone who has occasional D though.

I say take it. It will either stop the D or have a placebo effect and relieve your stress that the D will come at a bad time. good luck and eat some of your safe foods the days before. nothing that makes you worse. Karen

Anytime I'm going out, whether out for a day at zoo with my kids, or out to dinner with my husband, or a car trip, I take immodium. Even if I'm not having any problems right then. And it works great 99% of the time. It definitely helps to take it before the problems start or at the first rumble. My doc asked how many I was taking and I said on the worst days, I was taking six before it worked. He said that was a "reasonable amount". So I guess side effects aren't much to worry about.

Here is my routine for a test or interview. Get up early, walk around eat or drink just a little bit and get out that first bowel movement. THEN once you feel like you got the bulk of it out, take your immodium. I like the immodium AD with the anti gas effect as well. Also, you should be allowed to use the restroom during the exam. Obviously you don't want to go 100 times. But if you feel the urge and know you can't concentrate holding it in, then get up and go! But immodium works great for me. Getting out the first BM is key though. It avoids the cramping from the normal stuff trying to get out.

Taking it for emergency issues is fine, using it regularly will end up biting you in the arse...the hard way...toxic mega colon ring a bell???
