palpable abdominal mass

I think a palpable abdominal mass, basically means that it is a mass that can be felt by a physician when she examines your abdomen. It is something out of the ordinary and an indication of a problem. Physicians can feel the main internal organs when they examine you -- liver, pancreas, stomach, intestines etc. They know how they are supposed to feel and where they should be in relation to everything else. If a loop of bowel is badly inflamed or strictured a skilled physician should be able to feel it on examination -- unless the bowel loop is way in back. LIkewise if the liver or spleen is enlarged. Tumours can also sometimes be felt if they are large enough.

Hi Was just wandering if that would also be felt for a abcess? What is your Dr. doing about it? lol gail
