Hi guys,

I just have a question regarding the use of Imuran and Entocort and whether there is a connection there when it comes to gaining weight. I have been taking both medicines for about 5 months now and i've been putting on weight slowly but surely over that time. Especially around the tummy area. I am actually starting to look pregnant and it's not from bloating this time - it's just from weight gain. My appetite has not grown too much because of the meds so i just cannot figure it out. It's really getting me down and i feel like i'm getting a little chubbier every day. Anyone had any similar experiences? I am now only taking 50mg of Imuran per day and 3mg of Entocort. Thanks in advance.

I am not sure if there is a scientific connection, but I can tell you that I am experiencing the exact same thing. I am also taking Imuran and Entocort and I have been gaining wait in my tummy too. I am assuming it is the Entocort.

Also, I posted this before, but since I have been on these 2 meds, I have been experiencing serious "brain fog." I am normally the type of person who remembers EVERYTHING and can think on my feet. Lately, I am having problems remembering things from 10 minutes ago or I can't remember how to spell a word. It is so strange. I am going to the Gastro next week, so I will ask him.

Hang in there and please know that you are not alone. Also, I keep telling myself that it is better to be gaining weight with this disease than loosing. And, I try to remember that things could be a lot worse.

I too have gained weight & only around my tummy area -
While it hasnt been much overall, it is enough for me to notice
It looks like my tummy is always bloated
Im not on Imuran, but i am on entocort (only 1 pill a day), hopefully when i am off of it the swollen tummy will go down, but i have a feeling it is related to the inflammation in general.......:(

Thanks guys, i was starting to wonder was it just because i'm hitting 30 next year or worse still was there some sort of growth in my tummy because the weight gain is only in the tummy area and yes it looks like constant really bad bloating.
Anyway, i'm seeing my GI in November so i'll have to put up with it until then. But you are right - it could be a lot worse and i remember a time when i couldn't even get clothes to fit me as i was so thin. So i guess it's not such a bad situation after all. I am learning to disguise it with baggy clothes too!

I didn't gain weight when I took either of these meds in the past. The only med that makes me gain tons of weight is prednisone. I always get the moon face and pot belly, no matter how much I work out!

your reactions are probably due to entocort. I have linked to a site that is pretty decent for info on drugs, side effects, mechanism of action, etc.

There are many others as well, if you're curious about all that stuff. Yeah, the steroids can cause the brain drain, the weight gain, and the head fog...
