Hi  ya'll

My GI started me on Donnatal extended release. Have  any of you that have taken it, had good results? any bad side effects? Any info , pro and con,, will be helpful. Thanks.

I actually like it better than Bentyl or Levsin. It helps when my guts are cramping but also has a calming med in it too so it helps to relax me some so I don't get all stressed about feeling ill.

Thanks, Nanners.  I was taking the Levsin. but since it isnt going to be available, the dr. changed to Donnatal. Have a super weekend.Julie//Pommom

Pommom, I used to take Donnatal and it helped some (more than anything else had at that point), but still not enough.  We switched to Librax and it has worked so much better than any of the other ones I've tried over the years.  I hope Donnatal works for you...if not, see if you can try Librax.

ZenaWP's suggestion is another good one too. I like Librax too, almost for the same reason I like the Donnatal. Just fyi, so as she said if Donnatal doesn't work the Librax is another option.

ZenaWp, do you think the Librax works good for your Gastritis? I get that more often than the Crohns.

Nanners, with the exception of arthritis, my stomach pain is a much bigger issue for me than my Crohn's is.  My Crohn's is clinically in remission, but I deal with stomach spasms almost everyday.  I honestly don't take the Librax until I need to, so I don't know if it would prevent me from having pain at all if I just took it on a regular basis.  But, if I notice my stomach starting to hurt, I take it and it usually knocks in out within 10-15 minutes.  There are occasions when I have to take 2 pills and I still have some pain, but those situations don't have very often.  Librax has been a life-saver to me; honestly, it's the drug I'm taking or have taken over the years that I think has helped the most.  My quality of life has improved greatly after switching to it.  But, as far as whether or not it helps gastritis, I don't know...I still take Protonix twice a day.
