Getting much worse on Humira. Please Advise.

I just finished my CD starter pack. Day1 ( 4injections) - Day 15 (2 injections) - Day 30 (1 injection).

I started the first injection on  30mg of prednisone with little complications.; IM NOW UP TO 70mg of pred and have a complete obstruction!! Im in the worst pain ever and my large bowel is empty. Belly is hard and sore to the touch.

I know most of this was brought on by stress listen to this

1. Traveled to Spain with two kids ( flight anxiety)

2. got word my neighborhood was flooded due to TS Fay while overseas

3. Whitnessed a plane crash at Madrid airport while boarding my plane back to the states

4. Car broke down from water electrical problems upon arrival home

5. Cought strep throat on the plane.

6. Small bowel Obstruction now.

I know it takes at least 4 weeks to see results from Humira, but whats the longest it should take? This disease is ruining my life, I have to have relief soon.. smhair

For me, I am in terrible shape anytime I'm overstressed, even with great medications. Obviously you have a lot to be stressed about! Once I get my stress down, it seems like the meds can take over...

I saw results from Humira within a few weeks but I didn't have the enormous amt of stress to deal with at that time that you have. You're working closely with your GI, right? And he/she knows where you're at right now?

It took me a full 6 weeks. At the six week mark my BM started changing for the good. I tried not to worry because the Humira people and my GI said it could take up to 12 weeks.

Why? I can starve myself for 3 days and take 120mg of pred at home. It always resolves in 3-4 days. My wife is a nurse. I can always have her throw in an IV if need be.

Ive been through it enough times, I primarly have obstructive CD.

You are stronger and braver than I! I have had what my GI referred to as acute blockages; aka, things that got stuck and after a few hours of cramping, crying, pain, and puking, they moved on out. I've never had a full obstruction that required surgery. I even had an acute blockage while in the hospital and they just gave me more morphine and cleaned up the puke. Lovely...

Yep, its plesant. Nothing like vomiting things you ate....yesterday for breakfast!! It does make you feel alot better though.

I just sip water from a teaspoon, and treat the symptoms the best I can for a few days. If I ever run a temp or think I may have a perf or abcess I would go in a hurry.

I get Obstructions 6-8 times a year.

Hi Good your wife is a nurse just hope she can perform surgery if necessary. What is causing your blockages and where? You get an obstruction that many times in a year? ouch .Feeling any better yet? lol gail
