Three and a half years ago I bought an 18mo old filly. I had hoped in the time it took for her to mature I would have a handle on my health problems and be able to do as I wanted, which was to saddle train her myself. Well, my health had other ideas and my GI made me so fearful of the effects of the 6MP and steroids that I decided not to do my filly's saddle training myself at all. Then, she came home saddle trained, and I couldn't ride her regularly, so she is turning 'sour' and becoming difficult to handle when I am able to work with her. I now have a horse I don't ride because I fear injury.
It is hard to admit I bit off more than I can chew. Well, really, to admit my health is preventing me from doing the things I should have been able to do, but cannot. This young horse needs a job, she needs to be ridden regularly, and I cannot provide that.
SO...I have approached the lady who boarded/trained her while I was recently in the hospital about a trade. My younger horse (which she loved as a lesson horse) for an older, steady horse. One who does not need steady riding coupled with instruction. As a matter of fact, this older horse can teach ME about her gaited breed! (Paso Fino)
I rode her. She is smooth and sweet natured. My friend had her delivered (with 2 others) three weeks ago. All were broodmares who had been 'dragged down' by their foals and need good feeding to gain weight. It was only by chance that I stopped by my friend's farm and saw these mares and was drawn to this one. She is 14 and is called Nacimento, which I think is incorrectly spelled Spanish nacimiento, which means "birth". I would call her Le Tigre because she has tiger stripes.
