I'm currently on 20 mg/day of prednisone, bi-weekly Humira, and 100 mg/ day of Azasan (6mp, Imuran, whatever you want to call it.) I'm doing fairly well. I'd say about
80% of full remission. Unfortunately, I'm in a job where 100% would really be best. Also, my Doc wants me to attempt to get off the pred all the way, which would be fine with me. However, I don't feel like I'm doing well enough on my current meds to decrease the pred (so far, the only med that I'm 100% sure helps my CD is the pred, and every time I attempt to taper it, I flare). So I'm going to discuss increasing my Azasan dosage with him at my next appointment in October. For those of you with experience with 6mp, Imuran, Azasan, etc., how long does a *dosage adjustment* (*NOT* the initial effects -which are known to be 3+ months-) take to have any noticeable effects? I'm hoping I don't have to wait another three months after a dosage adjustment to start cutting down on the pred. Even at 20 mg/day, I hate the stuff.
I'm a bit disappointed so far (at least with my current dosing) in the Azasan. My doc mentioned "you'll get all the same relief from Azasan as you do with the pred, but without the side effects", which kinda got my hopes up. I do still hope that maybe a dosage adjustment will be the ticket. I know that 40 mg/day of prednisone *completely* relieves all my CD symptoms, and 20 mg/day just barely keeps me out of the bathroom. Maybe the 100 mg/day of Azasan is like 20 mg/day of pred, and there's room on the upside of the dosing schedule.
