Humira=Prednisone??? Are you crapping me?

So I think I have mentioned to everybody before that I am all of the sudden getting HUGE (baseball) welts on my belly when I give myself injections....

So... My GI is having me take PREDNISONE and BENEDRYL before each injection!

I am so mad. I HATE seriods... I am starting to HATE Humira.... Can I just go off all my drugs? I think it would probably make my Dr mad.... But I am mad too!

Hi Maybe taking the pred. just before the Humira will be better then having to take them all the time. The benedryl will help probably to keep the swelling down . Hope things look better for you soon. lol gail

It sounds like he's premedicating you, similar to how many people have to do before Remicade infusions. The prednisone lowers the inflammatory response, and you don't have to wean or anything because it's just one dose. Too bad you're getting welts from the Humira shots though!

Sometimes you only need to premedicate for a while. After several injections you may be able to ask about using just the benedryl as a premed and then maybe even not using that. But it is just one or two doses of pred not an everyday thing so the side effects should be minimal.
