heading towards surgery

Well it appears that i will be having surgery sooner rather than later. I am still dealing with an obstruction. After 4 weeks of liquid diet and 40mg of pred I couldn't even drop down to 35mg of the pred without having pain and nausea again.
I went for xrays yesterday that atleast showed it wasn't a complete blockage, and find out today if they will let me wait for a CT before they admit me for either surgery or IV steroids and TPN. From how I am feeling I think most of my blockage is scar tissue so there is really no getting over this. It has been 8 months of dealing with this and I am getting very tired of dealing with it and I would rather just have the surgery and get over it.

I had my last resection 11 years ago and had many good years after, so it is a good option for me I think.
Granted the epidural wasn't placed in the right spot and I woke in TERRIBLE pain, then I got a blood infection from the central line they placed and ended up with 10 days of IV antibiotics and flagyl for many weeks after but in the end still worth it I think.

The only problem with all this is that I am self imployed and will lose tons of income during all this. But more than likely if don't get it done now I will end up with an emergency surgery and it will be worse. Now I just have to find out if they can do the surgery by laproscope. My last on was not done that way. I have a 9 inch scar across my stomach from that one, but I hear that the recovery is better with laproscope? Does anyone know how the recovery time differs ?

Hi westart. I am facing the same thing. I have an old incision from my 2 prior resectiosn 23 yrs ago. It goes from the bottom of the ribcage to the pelvic area. He is going to try lap surgery, if there are no adhesions. If there are adhesions though, he will need to open me up. He said the hospital stay is 3-5 days. If the lap surgery is anythign like my gallbladder was, it'll take at least a couple, 3 weeks before you'll feel much like a human again. It wills till take another month or maybe more to get back to ful power again. Full belly surgery is a whole different thing though.

No matter the surgery you must remember that it is a full on assault against your body. Huge trauma. Muscles will jump and dance, as will nerves. You will be weak for awhile.
