I am just wondering .. has anyone tried frog meat? Is it easy to digest? How about
rabbit meat?
I was told that any form of meat is difficult to digest, including white meat pork, chicken .. and even some type of fish. Is that true? I know red meat is definitely bad news for me.
I really don't know what I can eat ........... help ............. pretty desperate here.. doctor told me to do the trial and error thing, but I'm really scared.

Hi Welcome to Healing Well and glad you joined us. I follow low roughage diet that is easy to digest. I don't know about
your question about
wild meat as it is awhile since I ate some.Low roughage are foods that are easy to digest like fish ,chicken ,minced meats ,turkey. So if food is easy to chew it is easy to digest. White bread, white rice, veggies cooked till really soft I tolerate canned peas and carrots. Soups liked the creamed soups and apple sauce, bananas. You could try this and see if it helps. lol gail

I don't know anything either about
the wild meat. I too follow a low residue diet. I eat much the same items that Gail mentioned about
. I too stay away from red meat. Everytime I eat it I always wind up in the ER with obstructive problems. But I do eat chicken, fish and turkey without any problems.
As for what to eat, your doctor is right, it is trial and error. The best thing to do is to keep a food diary to keep track of how certain foods affect you. I can't do dairy or chocolate for example, or any raw veggies.
Good luck

Hi Julie,
I personally eat alot of wild game with varying results. Venison is very hard to digest (but I eat it anyway), but rabbit has never given me any issues. It's on the line of a white meat so it's easier to digest. You might want to try it in small amounts to test it. I don't have any problems with pork either, so unfortunalely it's like the doc said "trail & error". That's pretty much what we all do as far as what our bodies will tolerate because what bothers me might not affect you.
good luck!

I can eat meat okay, that is except pork. The only pork I can eat is really crisp bacon. Any other form hurts. I do occasionally have a problem with beef, but not usually. I eat lots of chicken & fish doesn't bother. Very soft cooked veggies. No peas, rarely corn. Potatoes, carrots, squash, green beans & sweet potatoes, usually canned because they are cooked to death. Other than that I must eat mainly whote foods too.

Never tried either. Only have bunnies as pets. :)
Most meat I don't have problems with.

Well..it stinks but trial and error is the only way to go unless you never want to eat anything. I tried that way back in the 90s when I was first diagnosed. It gets old fast. I kept a diary for about
a year then winged it from there. Then after about
ten years, my diet allowances changed so I did a new diary.
I can eat pork except bacon (see someone else can eat bacon so we all vary). I also eat chicken a LOT. I can't handle beef, but when I am craving the taste I bite a piece and spit it out after I get the flavor. I am bothered by most every fruit and vegetable except bananas and potatoes and applesauce if I am feeling good. I will try baby food veggies occasionally. BUT i am lucky as dairy does not bother me like it bothers a lot of other CDers--I eat ice cream, cheese and milk but I try not to go overboard.
Start by experiementing with only 1 new food at a time so you know what actually was safe or a problem. And I would start with the softer foods as someone else said. Oh and my diary did not have good/bad lists. It had 5 categories---good always, good when I feel really good, risky, realy dangerous and NEVER eat again (popcorn, raw carrots, corn & sesame seeds are no-nos forever for me)

You can eat frog and rabbit, but you tend to hop a lot.

Lol Mike :). I didnt realise you could eat frog other than frogs legs. I must say Ive never had either.
Im much the same as everyone else - the trial and error thing - what works for one may not work for you.
Good luck - and keeping a food diary as mentioned would probably help you decide what is best for you.

I have no trouble with frog, or alligator, though I am not fond of gater. Rabbit is lean and very healthy and wild rabbit is even better. Squirrel is also good and I have had no trouble with them. I find with meat it is not what I eat but the fact that I cut it in small pieces and chew it well. I make sure it is cooked to falling apart and that it is not over seasoned. But as HabsHockeyFan says, its trial and error. What works for me may not work for you. SydneyJo, I dont think you want to be eating those giant cane toads you guys have over there. Better to just run over them, even if they have big frog legs.

Sniper, those cane toads, apparently, make a great 'popping' noise when run over by a car :) Noxious pests! Jo

I understand they pop like plastic bottles SydneyJo. Must be loads of fun trying to tell if you have had a blow out or run over a frog.
