I use Prodiem fibre supplement which contains pysillium, some people take just pysillium and swear by it too and say that buying it in bulk is very inexpensive.
Pysillium will likely cause more gas and bloating too, as with any fibre supplement, this is normal, just your system adjusting to it and that's why it's important to start with a small amount and increase only if necessary (increase slowly as well) and drinking plenty of water with it is very important as well.
I was very gassy and bloated before using fibre supplements and had a lot of frequency so my GI suggested I take a fibre supplement daily and indefinitely, best advice I've ever gotten from a GI.
It cut back my daily BM's, helped stop all the mucus (bee propolis was huge in cutting back most of my mucus, the fibre supplement was the icing on the cake though). Once my system adjusted (took me 3 months) then no more bloating and very little gas, it also formed my stools better (no more mush) and I'm able to tolerate eating fibreous foods without getting all gassy and bloated.
