Has anybody ever had one?

Do I have to get injected with that Barium stuff, through an IV?

Just wondering what to expect, I have to go tomorrow night and get one.

I don't recall any need for Barium in MRIs - only for x-rays. There was something about drinking fruit juice to improve resolution in the stomach area, but certainly not by IV.

I had MRI's a while back, abdomen/pelvis, to view the liver. When I had it done, there was IV contrast. I don't think it hurt as much as CT contrast but I don't remember exactly. If they use contrast, be sure to drink a lot of water afterwards to flush it out.

Is it an open MRI? If not, it is a very tight fit. I'm a small person and could barely spread my elbows out. You spend a while in there so if you have any issues with claustrophobia, let them know. I just closed my eyes and I spent so long in there I almost fell asleep. It is loud so I was given headphones.

From what I remember the hardest part was holding my breath in order to stay perfectly still. I had to stay still for like 30 seconds every time they took a picture.

If you have pain in your hips, it's going to be barely tolerable... I stiffened up so bad when I was getting an MRI done... thought I was going to cry...

It really sucked, too... because after all that, I still didn't find out what was going on... At the very least, though, avascular necrosis was ruled out... so that's a good thing...
