Foamy Stools?

Okay I can guess what's going on with the color of my stools but have any of you had the foamy D?  I've had it over the last 3 days.  Not going to the bathroom anymore than usual and I've been taking my protein pump inhibitor religiously.  Not eating anything out of the norm.  I don't consider myself in a Crohns flare right now but my Fibro is screaming at me again.  Suggestions/comments?

I used to have those halfway. I can't recall changing anything either actually...I just kept drinking water and resting and it eventually went away, but maybe someone else will have a better explanation.

like bubble bath foamy? foamy like that according to my transplant guy is lack of digestive enzymes from the pancreas. i took some creon 10 for it for a while and it cleared up. came back as soon as i stopped though. its just something i can live with. if you want a shock call a pharmacy about pricing creon 10. ! it was like 1200 bucks for my prescription.. although mine was free. (thanks taxpayers!)

Mine was that way for 4-5 days after I had the flu and I took some Pepto-bismol. I thought it was from that. It went away on it's own though.

Randy- are you kidding me! I questioned the GI about digestive enzymes back when I was first diagnosed and was told "she" didn't think that was necessary! Oh the frustration! Yikes that is a huge price tag that I can NOT afford! What to do...maybe it will straighten itself out soon. Thanks so much for the input!!!

I had foamy stools when I took Diflucan. Maybe yeast die off?

i get them randomly also...have no clue why, but it goes away.

Broom, Randy, is right. I had foamy bm's. Then the GI tested them for pancreas problems, and bingo, that was my problem....
I think the medical term for it is stetorreah (or something like that). Can be due to a build up of fats in your stool. This problem
can also happen with CD, especially for those with a short small ileum.

My stools were not only foamy but very smelly too... Yucky!

Dunny- No not really. I thought I'd e-mail Randy. I suggested to him in a thank you post that maybe my gall bladder stone was contributing to the problem as well. I do have CD in the duodernum(spelling) as well. Considering all these ducts dump into the duodernum I may have hit on something. As far as the ileum...what ileum...they took mine ): I haven't called my GI cause the gall stone migrates around and is very small. It hasn't caused me any significant grief (yet) since my 1st attack. Yeah, my stools are rank too! I think I ran the dog out of the house this morning! I'll let you know.

smilewinkgrin  Hey Sniper...who knew I could blow bubbles out the wazoo!  Maybe it will land me a spot on Family Guy or the Simpsons!  Now that would be interesting way to pay for all the drugs wouldn't it!

I know this is a super old post, but I know at least randy is still around. :) Did anyone ever get this figured out? I am struggling lately, and some of it has been foamy D. I had my gallbladder out in 2013 from pancreatitis (it wasn't the cause of the pancreatitis, though). Some days the D really burns. I have about 6 BMs/day, some are D (and sometimes bright yellow) but others are really formed and so dark they almost look black. I just turned in my 3 day stool samples today, so I am hoping that helps show something!

Not sure if it helps any but over the previous few years I had a lot... a heck of a lot of foamy yellow bm's. They were always either at the start of a major flare or during times when things were pretty wrong - and the D always burned with them. I hated it. For me I thought they were more "mucus shedding" then actual bowel movements. Odd smell to them as well. Anyway - I don't know the cause other than the disease process itself but pred always ended them, same with remicade.

At my worst, back in the day it was pure grey, horrid smelling unimaginably painful bm's - but this was long ago.

PS - I found sticking SCD intro diet helped somewhat with the yellow, foamy D. At least enough to get through till I could get in and get meds. Meds where like night and day - specially prednisone for me.

I'd suggest getting into your GI and explaining and see what your option are med wise, then perhaps try diet adjustments if you haven't already.

sfg... yep still got the foam . its as if their is a small amount of dish soap in the water.. ;o) drs. say still just not enough digestion going on.. and lots of fat going straight through.

Scifigal2k: will you let us know what your results say? I get random foamy explosions as well and I'm curious to know if there's a direct reason.

This is kind of crazy, but when I was younger prior to my UC diagnosis I had foamy D a few times in my life. It was always kind of a painful thing to pass considering it wasn't anything solid it them. It only happened a handful of times and at random moments in life, at times I wasn't even sick, I just thought something isn't processing correctly. It would only happen maybe once or twice and then would clear. Since my UC diagnosis I have never had this problem. I find this thread so interesting because I wonder if this was a sign from my childhood that I already had digestive issues underlying. Not that this does me any good now.
