so i've been experiencing a lot of stress and anxiety, etc lately and finally took my doc up on filling a lexapro script. i've had two other docs try to prescribe this to me in the past, but i've resisted because i already take enough meds and wanted to avoid more if at all possible.

anyone else have any experience with lexapro? i just took my first dosage this morning and feel like i'm gonna barf all over the place.  sad    doc said i might feel a little nauseas at first...

just wondering what to expect with this... i don't know if i can handle this nausea if it happens every morning when i take it...

My doctor kept wanting to put me on Lexapro too, and I resisted at first. I have taken it now for about a year and it works great. For about the first 2 weeks I did feel nautious and dizzy alot. It was pretty bad. Lexapro specifically works to increase serotonin levels in the brain. While the serotonin level increases, you will feel nautious and dizzy, just means its working! Stick with it, I know it might be hard, but trust me, its worth it.

thank you so much!! i was so relieved yesterday when i left the doctor's office and got the script filled--hopefully this will help me! and then today i felt so awful...you just made me feel 1000x better.

here's to feeling better!

Nausea is a common side effect of Lexapro and many other antidepressants.  If you can tolerate it, stick with the medication and hopefully the nausea will go away in the coming weeks.  If it gets too bad to tolerate, which happens sometimes, you can always stop the Lexapro and try another medication. 

Figuring out a good antidepressant for an individual is guesswork, because everybody responds differently to them.  I've tried three over the years.  One gave me some nausea at first, but it went away after 3-4 weeks.  Another made me sick as a dog, just miserable, and I stopped it after one week.  A third one gave me practically no side effects at all.

The key is to be patient in finding one that works best for you.

i took it for a while. i dont remember the side effects as it was a few years ago. imho, this is a med you want to be on short term, like prednisone. it does have side effects. also, imho, you should be seeing a psychiatrist when on this so you can work through your depression and gain some tools to help you cope so you can function without the medicine. be wary that it does not become a crutch for you and turn into a med you believe you need to make it through the day. remember, no matter how bad you have it, some one has it way worse. no matter what happens, there is always a silver lining - life is all perspective. if you train yourself to see the good in all things the bad becomes much easier to cope with, especially when you realize that over most things you have no control so it isnt worth worrying about them in the first place and some how things have an uncanny way of working themselves out.
