what would you do?

I am currently on Imuran and have been taking 150mg for about 4 years now. I have not had a flare since then and have felt pretty good. I am curious as to weather to stay on this or try not taking this anymore. Before taking Imuran, I was taking Asocol, which did not work for me. I know that taking the Imuran long term is not to good for you. I was wondering if anyone else has been in this type of situation. Im curious as to weather to stay on this or try no meds. Please let me know and thank you for your responses.

I was on 6mp for about 5 years. I was in remission in the first year and stayed on it w/ Pentasa for maintenance. I went off over a year ago to have a baby and my GI is fine with me staying off of it. I'm continuing Pentasa alone for maintenance (with a little break, see my sig line). Pentasa did not work alone on a flare but seems to help me maintain the remission. When I stopped the 6mp was I was constantly afraid I'd get sick again, but now I'm feeling alright with the decision. I'd go right back on it if something came up.

I agree with Zanne on this one. Why upset the apple cart if you don't have to??? A little story for you. I once enjoyed a 20 year remission drug free. Would I do it again, NEVER!!!! Why??? Because my remission ended with an emergency resection that was very painful and traumatic for me. So for me, from now on I will always take some type of maintainence med. Good luck!
