well as you all know i strted my new job 4 weeks ago,this job is very important for me for experience and just basically moving on with my life again,so first week of job flare and 2nd week of job 4 days in hospital with crohns exerbation well me and mum reakon it was gastristis caused by me not eating enuf wit my roids coz i didnt want to crap myself silly at my new job and last week was fine then today i had to have my MRI done and im bloody sick of ppl at wrk thinking im making crap up and just taking time off coz i want to or some reason.....i mean i left hospital against my doctors advice.I dont want to be saying i have an incurable disase and i need to go to hospital for it,even if i did i think they wld think i was making crap up again its just so frustrating,had estee make some comment to me in the bathroom saying "oh good your back its like the first day since the start that everyone's here" like i wanted to drink 6 glasses of barium??????????? mmmmmm YUMMY gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh STUPID DISEASE.

Thank you for letting me rant your the only ppl i knw who understands how this feels.

I hear ya. We're screwed if we try to explain, but sometimes we're even more screwed if we don't... this stupid disease can be such an utter PAIN to deal with in the workplace of all places. It's a very private disease, darn it. Sometimes I secretly DO want to unload all the nitty gritty details to coworkers just so they'll shut they're mouths!! But then I catch myself. Totally understand the need to rant. Hope things calm down for ya soon.

Hi Eva, sorry you are not feeling well. I now Crohn's can be very fustrating illness. I am sending you a big hug. don't give up that what were here for.

You did tell your boss, right? F what others think or say... difficult, I know, but if they are not your supervisor/boss - forget about 'em. If you want them off your back tell, 'em (if you don't mind being talked about behind your back). I don't care. I am still at my new job of 9 weeks. I have been out due to flare twice already. For those folks that made comments, I flat out told 'em right up, "I have crohn's; it's uncurable; and I am doing my best to deal with it. Some days will be bad others will be good. If you want info on it, I'll be happy to tell ya all about it." So far this has shut folks right up. Now, what they say behind my back to other workers, don't know/don't care. Overall I have gotten great support, especially from those that matter. And on those really difficult days that us cronies have and show up for work, the folks I have shushed see it and see that I am there and are not only supportive but also see I am there "gutting" through it.

I am at home today because my kiddo apparently has strep again... I am sure folks will be talking, but I don't care. :)

Not sure that my reply to your post will help, but want you to know I feel that for those who don't understand, that's their problem, not mine... or yours, if you think about it. Hang in there. New jobs are stressful enough for us cronies. Don't make it worse by beating yourself up.

I agree with others - I think it is a lot less stressful to have people know why you are out. People have been nothing but supportive to me. However, I understand that it is an embarassing disease and if you want to keep it private that is your business, but I would suggest at least telling your boss so they know that you weren't out partying, but were in the hospital. Employers don't have a lot of sympathy for absenteeism but once they find out it is from a disability they are a lot more lenient (and are often required to be by law). Good luck! And I hope it gets better.

dont think ne of the girls in my group will get it,i said i wanted to stay ina job like this one coz its good for my crohns etc (part frm *****y ppl) and they thort it was weird but,i knw wat i want frm life atm and this is part of my plan.i made a list of wat i wanted and ive ticked off most things except buying something really nice for myself,i really do deserve something coz im one tough girl and think all us crohnies are hard out pretty sure no one at my wrk has pulled out ther own nasal gastirc tube or shat in a bag for 2 months
