I am going to start a new subject as not to go off topic in the methotrexate post. In reply to MMMNAVY - would consider 1-2 movements a day pretty much remission and Crohn's Patient - 1-2 movements probably equal to not having Crohn's for a lot of people.
I do not feel like I have ever had a flare unless maybe 30 years ago when I saw a GI for excessive diarrhea, had some tests, nothing came of it and got better.
But after a year-and-a-half, 3 colonoscopys, 3 sigmoidoscopys, CT Scan and SBFT, 3 GI's and two surgeons, they say I definately have Crohn's.
Initially they found a stricture (a real mess as the surgeon said) in sigmoid colon and put on Prednisone for 3 months. GI said it was not doing enough so given the option of surgery or Remicade. At this time I knew almost nothing about Crohn's. Felt too good to have surgery so opted for Remicade. By the time that was approved and I was more knowledgeable, thanks partly to this forum, I felt I was feeling too good to take such a powerful drug.
Therefore I was not on any medications for quite a few months but scopes have always showed inflammation at the stricture site. No medications was still an option but GI was pleased I agreed to go on Methotrexate for a 3-4 months.
6-7 bowel movements a day was not an inconvenience and not a big deal as I virtually have no other symptoms. I have somewhat restricted my diet from the beginning.
Yes, at times I feel like I do not have Crohn's but know there is still something there. At times I feel almost guilty by posting but have legitimate thoughts, feelings and worries and it is everybody's wish for people to feel better. It is still a shock to be diagnosed (at 55) when you think you are the 'healthy' one.
My Dad was just taken to the hospital by ambulance today. He had been bleeding internally and hospitalized last week. They gave him blood, scoped his stomach, found nothing, thought he was on the mend and sent him home. This morning he lost an excessive amount of blood, was vomitting blood and collapsed. They are giving him blood and are talking about doing a colonoscopy of which he has never had. Hoping for the best.
