Hi guys. I thought I'd post and give you an update on my husband. He's finally off the prednisone altogether! It's been 2 weeks now, and he's doing good. He's still on the vancomycin for the c-diff (last time he stopped, the c-diff came back in less than 2 weeks). We're now waiting on the infectious disease doc to give us a pulsing schedule for the vanc . . . hopefully this time he'll get rid of that too! I'm sooooo hoping.
He's still taking the remicade - he's had a little bit of a rough time with the 'cade - for about 2 days after the takes the infusion, he starts having flu like symptoms, with muscle and joint pain, and fever. Then, after 2 days, he feels fine, and life goes on. We talked to the doc about this, and he said that next time he gets remicade, he'll first be premedicated with 40 mgs of prednisone to prevent that reaction. I hope it works - he's due for his next remicade next monday. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope that'll take care of it.
Other than that, my husband's nerve damage seems to be improving - the last time his neurologist said that his nerves on both legs were now in normal nerve conduction range. He's due for another head and neck MRI in 5 months, to make sure there is no central nervous system damage (they didn't see anything before - he's had 2 of them so far). So, things are improving on that front - his foot drop is much much better - about 65% better. He's going to start exercising again (with weight training and a little walking) starting next week - he's now feeling well enough to try that.
So, the last major thing it appears for him to conquer is the c-diff infection - hopefully he'll be able to get rid of it this time. Life has slowly returned to normal - though I doubt I'll start taking it for granted like I did before. I'm very grateful for his mostly good health, and hope it continues.
Happy holidays to all of you, and I hope that you too like us, will start feeling better soon. Love to you all,
Preetha
