side effects of 6mp ( Mercapturine ) on children ?

 My 10 yr old daughter was on 6mp ( mercapturine ) for 11 months. She has mild crohn's disease.

 She was just diagnosed with CVID ( common immune variable def ) which she will need IVIG transfusions for life. This medicine was given off label , never any studies for children and advised for 8 week treatment . Basically , this medicine lowered her white blood count where she lost 2/3 of her immunity. Has anyone neen on 6mp ( adult or child) for a long amount of time.. and had any ( any) side effects ?

Mine has been on 6mp since spring(April, I think). It allowed her to get off Pred., but I am not sure yet if it is working. It's been so bad for so long. No real side affects, other than hair loss. Dose is alternating 50 then 75 mg., and she has had many blood tests to ensure she metabolizes it properly. That number has jumped up and down over the time she has been on it for no apparent reason. It takes 3-6 monthss just to reach the therapeutic levels.
For some it works miracles though, so just make sure you are closely monitoring it and taking the blood tests on schedule.

I was on 6-mp for only a couple of months before I suffered real immune problems. My doctor didn't catch it and I ended up in isolation for 11 days because of bone marrow suppression. My recommendation is to make sure your doctor is on top of your situation.
