Cold medications?

My daughter has come down with one heck of a cold. I guess it might be worse with her immune system so down. Does anyone know if taking cold medications in okay? Particularly while still on Prednisone. I know Tylenol is okay, but what about decongestants, or something like Dayquil.

Also, it looks like she might need to start her puffers as well, but has never taken them while on Prednisone. Any conflict here, esp. the one with a steroid in it?

What type of inhalers does she use? Do they have steroids in them? A Proventil or Albuterol rescue inhaler is fine. You need to check with her doctor if she uses a steroid inhaler.

I have been told to take decongestants while on prednisone BUT since noone here knows her medical history, medications and most importantly, is a doctor, it would not be a good idea to suggest what is okay. I think you need to call her GP/PCP in the AM and run the situation by them.

If she is having difficulty breathing or has sputum that is green, she needs to see a doctor. Prednisone can make one more susecptible to bacterial infections. There is a nasty bronchial bacteris hitting our section of the country. It took me 6 weeks to recover from that.

I can't remember the actual type, but one definitely has a steroid in it. I think I will call the Dr. though, just to make sure it's okay. As I recall the inhaler doesn't enter the bloodstream.
