Just when I thought I was finished for awhile, I got a call from surgeon's office this morning saying my GI requested he see me and the appointment is on Wednesday. If I did not actually have a copy of the pathology from Jan 6th (no evidence of dysplasia or malignancy) or if they had done furher biopsies Jan 19th during my endoscopic ultrasound, I would be quite concerned that I have an appointment in 2 days? Two hours drive each way, fourth time this month.
I have a stricture in sigmoid colon and surgery has always been an option. Remicade was also an option but refused it because of what I'd read about it's effectiveness in treating scar tissue and other issues and considering how good I was feeling. Not against drugs if you are suffering.
The fact is though that I do not have any symptoms. I know two cases are not alike but my Crohn's has been referred to as 'non-typical', unsual and 'mildest case I've ever seen'. All in all, 6 GI's and 3 surgeons have viewed the stricture. They got through to the terminal ileum during my colonoscopy two weeks ago and everything else was fine. The GI doing the ultrasound said it showed deep scar tissue but the instrument they used was even bigger than the normal scope and they got through. Last year they had to use pediatric scope and gastroscope one time.
I know scar tissue will not go away by itself nor will medication take it away but surgery causes scar tissue too? And there has been constant inflammation at the stricture site. Will surgery take this away, at least temporarily? If I had a choice I would prefer surgery to long term use of powerful drugs. And yes, they cannot rule out cancer 100%.
Just speculation at this point, quess I don't have too many days to worry about it.
