Sobe Lifewater w/ Purevia

It is 0 calories, no sugar, but sweetened w/ Stevia.  I tried the pear one today and it was good but a little too sweet for me.  I bet if I cut it w/ water it would be great.  Also, it had no caffeine but did have ginseng and vitamens.  I felt energized from it w/o feeling caffeinated.

purevia is not stevia. is it one of the new stevia extracts being sold as stevia. this way it can be marketed as a sugar substitute legally and be sold in the sugar isle in the market. stevia is found in the supplement isle. the two are not the same as purevia is only part of stevia. with real stevia you get the whole thing, minimally processed and the other stuff that nature made with it that works synergistically with it. no one knows what happens to the body if you just use the extract but then that could be scare tactic stuff. imho, if you want stevia, buy stevia. but i'm weird like that.

I actually have Stevia at home but prefer sugar in the raw (even though I know that is real sugar). Thanks for clarifying because I wasn't sure why they were calling Stevia Purevia. Why can't they put full on Stevia in it? Sorry, don't totally get it. I only posted it so if someone is out and needs a pick me up and needs to buy something at a convenience store, this might be a healthier choice.

Because the FDA won't approve Stevia in it's natural state, when it comes to the FDA things have to be unhealthy or a health risk in order for them to approve it.

Pb4 - what do you think about the safety of Purevia? Have you tried it? Does it bother your stomach? Just curious b/c I kind of want to try the other flavors.

Stevia Book Burning

For an herb that has been around for centuries and used by so many people without adverse effects, one might think that stevia would be a welcome addition to the roster of commonly accepted foods. Instead, its exceptional sweetness has made it the subject of much Kafka-type intrigue involving the FDA -- even after passage of legislation that allowed it to be marketed as a dietary supplement.

The stevia story -- which had previously been characterized by official ambiguity, secret “trade complaints,” a full-fledged "import alert," and FDA searches and seizures -- took another bizarre turn in May of '98 when the FDA directed a Texas-based distributor of stevia dietary supplements, Stevita Company, to destroy three books on its history, benefits and uses. (One of the books targeted by the FDA was "The Stevia Story; A tale of incredible sweetness & intrigue" by Linda and Bill Bonvie and Donna Gates). The directive was the result of a determination that literature describing stevia’s sweetening capabilities somehow violated a ban on the labeling of such supplements as sweeteners.

Nope, I've never used purevia, only Stevia.

Is it any coincidence that we have the same people determining the safety of our foods as we do profiting off the drugs sold to aid the sick? Hmmm.

Hi FitzyK!  You are so right with that last comment... sad

Here is a link I posted quite a while back.  It is stevia in flavors you can add to your water!  I've purchased the root beer and lemon drop flavors and they're really quite good.  My local health food store carries them.  They seem quite pricey, but a few drops in your glass is all it takes, so it's probably as cheap or cheaper than most packaged beverages.
