Perianal Crohn's disease

Hi I am new here, my mother is anniegotyourgun and she introduced me to healingwell.

In March 2006 I got a boil in my perianal region went on about 3-4 lots of broad spectrum anti-biotics............. to cut a long story short I have been diagnosed with perianal crohns after being diverted for almost 12 months.

Is perianal crohns common???

 

I believe what you had was an abcess. And that would most likely mean you have Crohns Colitis which is not as common as the crohns in the terminal illieum or small bowel. I started the same way, after multiple surgeries and no colon left, it moved onto my terminal ilieum in which obviously I didnt have crohns colitis anymore....

I have peri-anal CD. It has spread through my large intestines, but it primarily was in my descending colon and rectum when it all started. They went back and forth on whether it was CD or UC, but eventually, a doctor finally told you.. "You can't have UC if you have fistulas, abscesses, fissures, and skin tags." So, it was clarified, I have CD...and it is PRIMARILY perianal..and also one of the most painful locations because that is where a LOT of nerves are located.

I'm on Humira after failing a ton of drugs, but now I've had a severe reaction to the Humira and not sure if I'll be allowed to continue.

Thanks Crohnspatient, luckily it seems not to have move up since dec 06 and i have had no medication for it until it flaired up again in late 08-till feb 09. drainage of abcess after abcess has also left me with almost no control but also no diagnosis. Now a bit late the Dr said removing the colon will most likely get rid of the crohns all together but thats not an option. (It would have to be medically necessary). The Abcess/fistulas are very aggressive and destroy tons of tissue as they travel my Dr. says hes never seen so much damage from fistulas. But i guess that the crohns aspect. The first abcess didn't burst out my skin but burst inside and traveled on the outside of my sphincter muscel and burst back into my rectum

Removing the colon will not get rid of the crohn's all together because crohn's can affect any part of the GI tract from mouth to anus and typically when they surgically remove areas that are diseased, the disease will manifest in another part of the GI tract (and can often affect more than one area at a time). For those with ulcerative colitis, getting the colon removed is considered a "cure", but not for crohn's.

Trad: Many people have Crohn's isolated to their colon/rectal/anal area.

PB4....

I had a total proctocolectomy (they took out the colon, rectum, and anus). Now, there is some chance that I will get Crohn's symptoms in my small bowel, but so far so good. I have talked to many others who only had disease in the bottom end, and after surgery, never had problems again.
