Hello everyone, I have Crohns for 3yrs now, and been having a flair for about 2 weeks. My Dr told me this week I have no choice but to start Humira. I have done alot a reading about this drug and was wandering about the lowering of immune system. Do any of you who take Humira work with the public, because of the risk of getting infections. if so do you supplement it with anything. I work in medical field their for I am exposed to alot, So I am nervous about taking this..Any Info I could get would be great..

I work with families with small children, and I am always surrounded by colds, stomach bugs, respiratory viruses, rashes and anything else you can think of! Just this week I met with families with RSV, impetigo, and pneumonia. I've been on Humira since October, and I haven't gotten any sicker this winter than any other year. I did have the beginnings of bronchitis 2 months ago, and I went to the doctor when I first felt it building up in my lungs. I was on prednisone at the time, so that kept the inflammation down, but it could have contributed to it being harder to fight off. A round of Levaquin knocked it out and I've been fine since. The only problem I have with Humira is the joint pain it's caused.

I've only been on humira for a month...I too work in the health care field as I work in nursing homes and with dialysis patients...the lowering of the immune system worries me as well but I'm trying to be careful...kimberlayn, I'm getting horrible joint pain from humira but none of my docs feel its the med since its supposed to help with joint pain...nice to know I'm not crazy....

I am coming up to my 8th shot of Humira. My doctor actually prescribed vitiamin B6 for me. I haven't had a cold or anything for three months!
